About

stark@starklabz:~ $ ./about.sh

I have 4+ years of combined experience across IT support and networking. I started as an IT Intern in a NOC, moved into a Junior Network Engineer role, and finished at Conduent as a Network Engineer — gaining early, hands-on exposure to enterprise routing, switching, firewalls, and virtualization along the way.

At Conduent I supported a global network spanning 22 countries and 100+ sites, serving over 500 government entities and numerous Fortune 100 clients. As a Tier 2 engineer I handled escalated routing, switching, and firewall issues across Cisco IOS-XE, ASA-OS, Palo Alto PAN-OS, F5, and VMware environments, and carried on-call responsibility for that worldwide infrastructure.

In May 2025 I joined Steamboat Resort as an IT Support Technician, deliberately widening my range beyond pure networking. I now work daily with Microsoft 365 administration, Active Directory and Entra ID, Windows Server, network troubleshooting, Windows 11 client management, print systems, point-of-sale infrastructure, and general desktop support across multiple business units. PowerShell and Python let me automate those workflows and keep configurations consistent across devices.

I graduated from the University of Utah in Fall 2023 with a B.S. in Information Systems and a minor in Business Management. I hold the CCNA and am working toward the CCNP Enterprise, with Security+ and Palo Alto next. I work across networking, systems, and automation, and keep a self-hosted Proxmox server running an EVE-NG lab to push each of them further.

Leadership & Impact

Recovered a failed router on my first day at Tier 2
Incident Response
Conduent · Network Engineer
SituationA router failed during a high-priority call — on my first day on Tier 2, while I was training new Tier 1 engineers.
ActionTook ownership of the replacement: coordinated with inventory to source hardware and applied a backup configuration before it shipped.
ResultExpress-shipped a pre-configured router to the remote site, and the Tier 1 engineers I was training saw the full escalation path start to finish.
Led TACACS+ rollout across 200+ network devices
Security Posture
Conduent · Project Lead
SituationDevice authentication was inconsistent across the estate, weakening the security posture and complicating engineer logins.
ActionLed the project to configure TACACS+ on 200+ network devices and trained fellow engineers on using Cisco ISE for centralized authentication.
ResultCentralized authentication across the estate — stronger security posture and a simplified, consistent login process for the team.
Led winter POS readiness across 150+ terminals
Revenue Critical
Steamboat Resort · Project Lead · Winter season
SituationThe resort's annual winter opening depends on every point-of-sale terminal taking payment correctly on day one.
ActionLed the readiness project: tested 150+ POS terminals including Verifone Lane7000, FreedomPay, Mi9, and RTP systems, validated payment processing end to end, and coordinated the firewall rule updates required for FCC server and database connectivity.
ResultTerminals verified and connectivity cleared ahead of the season — a cross-team effort spanning retail operations, networking, and security.
Built a Python tracer that gave ops network visibility
Automation
Steamboat Resort · Self-directed
SituationThe operations support team had no way to see where a device actually sat in the network without asking someone who knew Cisco IOS.
ActionWrote a Python script that traces an IP through the network, returning hop-by-hop device, port, VLAN, and neighbor information.
ResultIn-depth network transparency for a team that doesn't need IOS knowledge to use it — fewer escalations, faster triage.

How I Work

Willing to learn — and to teach
I was training new Tier 1 engineers on my first day at Tier 2, and I trained the team on Cisco ISE during the TACACS+ rollout. Moving from networking into systems work at Steamboat was a deliberate choice to keep learning.
Approachable
I build tools other people can actually use. The Python path tracer exists so the operations team can see the network without needing to know Cisco IOS.
Team player
One of three technicians covering an entire resort, and part of on-call rotations supporting infrastructure across 22 countries. POS readiness meant coordinating retail operations, networking, and security at once.
Strong communicator
High-priority bridges and CAB change reviews both come down to being clear under pressure — explaining what broke, what you're changing, and what the risk is.

Contact

Where I'm most useful

The work I do best sits where networking meets systems — escalated routing and firewall issues, identity and endpoint management at scale, and the Python and PowerShell that removes the repetitive parts. If that's the shape of the problem on your desk, get in touch.
